MHRA update on consumer CBD
The Medicines & Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) has stated on its website this month that: “if a company markets a CBD containing product that makes a medicinal claim it will be considered to fall within the definition of a medical product contained in The Human Medicines Regulations 2012…Medicinal products must hold a Marketing Authorisation to allow their legal sale, supply, or advertisement in the UK.”
This MHRA statement is in line with the comments made within our 2024 report ‘Promoting cannabis: current rules & regulations‘, which members are encouraged to review.
Business of Cannabis also reports that the Food Standards Agency (FSA) has provided some further updates on CBD products.
