Cannabis Industry Council appoints first CEO

Experienced membership and third sector leader Mike Morgan-Giles has started as CEO of the Cannabis Industry Council.

The CIC launched in late 2021, and Mike becomes the organisation’s first full-time CEO. The organisation has been run by founder Professor Mike Barnes and Kate Thorpe since its formation.

Mike Morgan-Giles has worked for numerous membership organisations in two countries, holding senior roles across communications, public affairs and marketing.

Chair of the Cannabis Industry Council, Professor Mike Barnes, commented:

“I am so pleased to welcome Mike to the new position of CEO of the Cannabis Industry Council. This is key appointment for our industry.”

“The CIC has gone from strength to strength in its first year but now has come the time to give it a boost in terms of growth and influence. I know Mike will be a huge asset to the CIC and the industry as a whole.”

CEO of the Cannabis Industry Council, Mike Morgan-Giles, added:

“I’m absolutely delighted to become the first CEO of the Cannabis Industry Council. I’ve been impressed by the passion and commitment of the team and members for enhancing this vital industry.

“Cannabis and hemp products have the potential to radically change the lives of those with medical conditions, as well as offering opportunities to improve the environment and our economy. I look forward to working with the team, CIC members and the wider sector to deliver change and help grow the industry.”

A collective voice for, and by, the sector, the CIC is a membership organisation representing the entire UK cannabis industry. Over 100 members represent the supply chain and others working to improve the sector, including charities, clinical groups, professional services, and research bodies.
