New Rare Diseases Working Group
CIC has launched a new Rare Diseases Working Group, which aims to:
- Raise awareness in the use of pharmaceutical cannabinoids in rare diseases (engagement with rare disease charities etc…)
- Help create robust innovative clinical trials for pharmaceutical cannabinoids through life sciences
- Look to how we can incentivise industry to invest in rare disease research and studies
Rare conditions are individually rare but collectively common, with over 3.5 million people in the UK living with a rare condition. A rare condition is a condition that affects fewer than 1 in 2,000 people. There are around 7,000 rare conditions, with new conditions regularly identified through scientific progress. 1 in 17 people are affected by a rare condition at some point in their lives. 7 in 10 rare conditions affect children.
Details on how to join the group will be in the July member newsletter, or members can get in contact to request a link to join the group.
Members interested in having a formal role on the WG should get in touch by Friday 2 August. The first meeting will be held in September, where there will be a formal vote on the group leadership.
